to the life cycle of plastic and textile polymers, and L’Oréal, world leader in beauty, are announcing a partnership with Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo, and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe.
Carbios has developed a unique sustainable technology using highly specific enzymes that do a better job at recycling PET plastics and polyester fibres.
This innovative process produces a recycled PET that is good as new and can be reused – for example in bottles or packaging.
Carbios and L’Oréal previously founded a consortium to manufacture the recycling technology designed and developed by Carbios.
Now, Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo, and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe are joining this consortium to promote the circular economy of plastics using Carbios’ breakthrough technology.

Auchan, Biscuits Bouvard, Carrefour, Casino, Coca-Cola, European Partners, Danone, Franprix, L’Oreal, LSDH, Monoprix, Nestlé France, Système U, Unilever, La Fondation Tara Expéditions, and WWF France have signed the National Pact on plastic packaging.
The aim is to collectively agree on the use of plastic, a major source of pollution, and move from a linear model of “making, consuming, disposing” to a circular economy of plastics in France.
The commitments, based on the Ellen Mc Arthur Foundation’s “New Plastic Economy,” are:
Encourage the elimination of problematic or unnecessary packaging.
o Prohibit PVC in household, commercial, and industrial packaging by 2022
o Prohibit expanded polystyrene in food containers and cups.
Carrefour has already replaced 111 tons of polystyrene trays with flowpacked cardboard trays. Casino will remove all polystyrene trays from its seafood department by 2019
Test reusable packaging business models and share results among signatories
Auchan presents a washable polyester bag for weighing fruits and vegetables. Carrefour is testing a reusable bag for produce and beverages, and also allows shoppers to bring their own reusable packaging to the deli and cheese departments.
Eco-design packaging to reach 100% recyclability by 2025
Biscuits Bouvard has removed carbon black from their PET trays to facilitate their recycling. LSDH is partnering with Paprec to set up an opaque PET recycling network.
Collectively reach 60% effectively recycled packaging by 2022
Coca-Cola already has 100% recyclable packaging and is committed to improving the collection process to ensure the recyclability. Cristaline installed Ecoboxes at Auchan car parks.
Include an average of 30% recycled plastic into packaging by 2025.
All bottles of Coca-Cola European partners France already contain 27% rPET, and the 50 cl containers will soon contain 50% rPET. Starting this year, the plastic film surrounding the bottles will contain 50% recycled plastic.
Test, and if possible manufacture, 3 innovative solutions per year
Nestlé launched Nesquik All Natural in a stand-up recyclable paper (97%) packet.
Commitments checked and verified by NGOs.

Major e-commerce players are committing to reusable packaging with LOOP
Even before the Roadmap on Circular Economy makes it mandatory in France, the change is appearing worldwide, thanks to the Loop e-commerce platform project. This initiative was presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 24, and brings together 25 multinationals (Coca-Cola, Mondelez, PepsiCo, Nestlé, Procter&Gamble, Danone, Jacob Douwe Egberts, Lesieur, Cozie, Carrefour, etc.), along with TerraCycle, the waste-recycling specialist.
The Loop platform delivers consumer products in foldable and reusable shopping bags in reusable packaging that has a deposit. They can be glass (Coca-Cola, Evian, Tropicana bottles), metal (Milka or Quaker cereal boxes) or mono-material plastic (e.g., detergents and liquid soap refills). After use, a partner carrier picks up the containers at home. They are cleaned, disinfected, and reused for a future order, or recycled after a dozen uses.
