Retail

The retail market for sandwiches, salads, boxes, and other individual ready meals reached nearly €2 billion in 2018. It gained 40% in value between 2014 and 2018. According to NPD, the purchase of salads, sandwiches, ready meals, snacks, and beverages for same-day consumption represents 7% of out-of-home trips (+1.2%) and the market is valued at €2.6 billion in 2018 (+2%).
Retailers account for nearly one out of five lunches (18% of visits).


The egg market grew by 5.4% in 2018. Private label brands account for 55.2% of sales :

Catering

The automatic distribution market reached $2 billion, including tax, representing 3.3 billion consumer opportunities (+0.5%). Coffee accounts for 62% of consumption. Machines located at strategic points drain 20% of visits and are up 1.6% in 2018. Contactless payment already exists at 30,000 distributors in France and generates a 20% sales increase. Snacking has become the main way to eat outside the home. It represents 59% of the lunches and dinners eaten out in a typical week*. Today, there are twice as many fast food outlets in France as in 2007. There are 41,000 establishments (for a turnover of approximately €19 billion). “This figure reaches 94,000 points of sale if you include bakeries, supermarkets, mini markets, market stalls, delivery, and take-out,” says Nicolas Nouchi, CEO of CHD Expert Europe. He also points out that over the same period, table catering still has the same number of units, with a potential of 104,000 establishments. “The sector has been stagnating for more than 20 years.”

All circuits


The global market for organic products reached $95 billion in 2017, according to IFOAM (+18.7%). Germany remains the leading European market with €10.04 billion (+5.6%), ahead of France (€8.3 billion, +17%). The country where organic products have the highest market share is Denmark (13.3% of the €1.6 billion market, +31%). Germany is at 5.4%, and France is at 4.2%.

The energy drinks market reached €212 million in 2018 (+7.8%), for total sales of 67 million litres (+8.2%). Red Bull holds 52.4% of the market (-0.9%), far ahead of Monster (24.2%, +1%) and private label brands (13.3%, -0.6%).
